Leadership, Service and Responsibility

An Executive Member of the Sen. Natasha Supporters Network (SNSN) is an individual who has been formally appointed, elected or otherwise recognized to serve in an executive leadership position within the organization, in accordance with SNSN’s approved organizational structure and governing rules.

Executive Members play an important role in providing leadership, coordination, administration, strategic planning and organizational development.

With leadership comes greater responsibility. Executive Members are expected to lead by example, protect the integrity of the Network and place the interests of the organization and its members above personal interests.


WHO IS AN EXECUTIVE MEMBER?

An Executive Member is a qualified SNSN member who has been officially entrusted with a leadership responsibility.

Depending on SNSN’s organizational structure, Executive Members may serve at:

  • National level
  • State level
  • Local Government level
  • Ward level
  • Committee or departmental level

The specific positions and responsibilities should be determined by SNSN’s constitution, policies and official appointments.


THE ROLE OF EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

Executive Members help turn the objectives and vision of SNSN into organized action.

Their responsibilities may include:

LEADERSHIP

Providing direction and guidance within their assigned area of responsibility.

COORDINATION

Working with other leaders, coordinators, volunteers and members.

ADMINISTRATION

Supporting effective management of organizational activities and records.

COMMUNICATION

Ensuring that accurate information reaches the appropriate members and structures.

PLANNING

Participating in the development and implementation of approved programmes and activities.

REPRESENTATION

Representing SNSN responsibly when officially authorized to do so.

SERVICE

Supporting members and communities through appropriate organizational activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE

Executive Members should demonstrate the values and standards expected from other members.

They should show:

Integrity • Discipline • Respect • Accountability • Commitment


2. SUPPORT MEMBERS

Executive leadership should not be viewed simply as a position of authority.

Executive Members should be available to guide, support and communicate with members within their responsibilities.


3. IMPLEMENT APPROVED PROGRAMMES

Executive Members may be responsible for helping implement programmes and activities approved by the appropriate SNSN leadership.

They should ensure that activities are properly organized and consistent with SNSN objectives.


4. MAINTAIN COMMUNICATION

Executive Members should maintain effective communication with:

  • Other executives
  • Coordinators
  • Members
  • Volunteers
  • Communities

Important information should be communicated through recognized channels.


5. PREPARE REPORTS

Where required, Executive Members should provide appropriate reports concerning activities under their responsibility.

Reports may include:

  • Activity reports
  • Meeting reports
  • Membership updates
  • Financial reports
  • Programme reports
  • Challenges
  • Recommendations

EXECUTIVE MEMBER RIGHTS

Subject to SNSN’s governing documents, an Executive Member may have the right to:

  • Participate in executive meetings.
  • Contribute to organizational discussions.
  • Make recommendations.
  • Participate in approved decision-making processes.
  • Access information necessary for their responsibilities.
  • Lead assigned activities.
  • Represent SNSN when formally authorized.
  • Receive appropriate organizational support for assigned duties.

Executive authority should always remain within the limits of the person’s official role.


EXECUTIVE MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES TO MEMBERS

Executive Members have a duty to treat members fairly and respectfully.

They should:

  • Listen to members’ concerns.
  • Encourage participation.
  • Avoid favoritism.
  • Communicate relevant information.
  • Protect member privacy.
  • Promote peaceful conflict resolution.
  • Encourage teamwork.
  • Avoid abuse of authority.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Leadership positions carry additional accountability.

Executive Members should be prepared to explain decisions and activities within their areas of responsibility.

They should maintain appropriate records and cooperate with legitimate organizational reviews.

Leadership is not exemption from accountability.

Leadership increases accountability.


CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Executive Members should avoid situations where personal interests interfere with organizational responsibilities.

Where a potential conflict exists, it should be disclosed through the appropriate organizational channel.

Executive positions should never be used for unauthorized personal gain.


FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Where an Executive Member is entrusted with SNSN funds, they must handle those funds responsibly.

They should:

  • Use funds only for approved purposes.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Keep supporting documentation.
  • Provide reports where required.
  • Avoid personal use of organizational funds.
  • Follow approved financial procedures.

No Executive Member should collect funds in the name of SNSN without proper authorization.
